Use of the Projections as backdrop

Just a quick post to say, great ideas this term, and in realtion to my music post(see ongoing ideas). We could sooo use the projection panel to work as a backdrop for alot of the big outdoor scenes in vegas, next term. I got really excited when we dicussed it in the feedback time, and i think the group as a whole agrees with me when i say, it wasnt easy, or pretty dragging all the those pros around in the dark ๐Ÿ™

I think if we find some really solid images, or even amalgimate a few if need be we could really find some nice backdrops for scenes, an example could be the Las Vegas boulevard, or a casino, or anything our little creative hearts desire, but that is then, this is now, so we have only ideas, but believe me when i say………….this is only the beginning ๐Ÿ˜›

Possible Music/inspiration

Okay, so i had this post added like 6 hours ago and stupidly overwote it with my costume post(no idea how)

Well hello there ๐Ÿ™‚

I was just listening to a Las vegas themed playlist compiled by myself, and thought there are a few that we could most definatly fit into the next performance. I feel that we could have used perhaps a bit more music in the last performance, even in the background to maybe set the mood for every scene?

But anyway here are a few of the songs and a brief explaination of why i think they fit in :

Viva las vegas – Elvis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPuKoqu6kMk

This is an obvious explaination, it just personifies the whole las vegas theme, but at the same time, sets aside the differences we want to show.

Vegas Two Times – Stereophonics

This song is bit more “rocky” and i think it would be a great theme for a meatier scene where something more important is going on? we shall wait and see….

Leaving Las vegas – Sheryl crow

Thisย  a great tune for the fleeing vegas scene, it has that feel of something good is going to come of this, dont give up hope ๐Ÿ™‚ just a nice little tune ๐Ÿ™‚

Your love is like vegas – The thrills

This would be a cool song for the wedding scene depending on how we want to do it? It could be like a montage scene maybe play a montage vid on the prjection?

Anywho its up to u guys, i think it would be cool ๐Ÿ™‚ x

Further inspiration:

Here are a few pictures of a woman that I found most inspired my costume choice: Dolly Parton. To me she summarises everything my character wants to be: a woman of country and less than luxurious origins, living a wealthy and glamorous life in Las Vegas – a life full of rhinestones, animal print and sequins abound.

Additional/personal influences for King Peter

I just thought i would give a few images and some insight into where i got my influence for the character of king peter. As was evident from the script and the rehearsals/performance, he comes on a little strong, and a tad eccentric ๐Ÿ˜› although this is my favourite quality he has.

I’ll start with the 1st image, J.R Ewing from “Dallas”, seen in the picture above hold a nice stack of cash in his had, very like King Peter, as he is a rich baron of Las Vegas. I felt that this image personified the money and materialistic side of my character, especially the large grin on his face, made me feel that only money made him this happy.

The next image, Slim Pickins, a famous western movies actor, in this picture he is seen to be shouting, a trait i have come to associate with King Peter, he is a loud mouth. Also the look i was going for with the character was similar, simple but distinctive ๐Ÿ™‚

The 3rd image, is none other than good old George W Bush, i think this influence speaks volumes for itself! He is a well known, yet brash idiotic figure (in presidential terms) and i think this speaks to the character of King Peter, especially in his off hand comments and decisions(trying to marry off his son for example)

The 4th image is of a prospector, this image caught my eye, mainly on a aesthetic level, as it cuts down to the bones of the idea of a cowboy, or desert dweller. I could see the weariness in his face from working, and it is a weariness that King Peter could also know, but caused by completely different means………namely, losing money gambling.

The 5th image is Stinky Pete from “Toy Story”, i liked this as an influence on my character not only from the look, but this character comes across as nice, and warm, but he is very cold and calculating under this charm. I feel on certain levels, this can relate to the character of King Peter, as he wants what he wants first and foremost, and he will do what he has to do to get it, if that means playing false faces then so be it.

The 6th image is The rich texan from “The Simpsons”, i like this character for his offhand and unexpected behaviour, for example, he is known to shout and dance around firing off his pistols in joy if he finds something to his liking. It is this kind of eccentric and uneccesary behaviour that I wanted to portray with King Peter, and i feel to some degree, i acheived that.

Last but by no means least, Yosemite Sam, this has to be the craziest of all the influences, he takes the rich texans antics and turns them up to 11! This was the very first person that came to my mind when i was cast as the role of King Peter. He is agressive, loud, obnoxious, dangerous, and very, very funny! but every so often he shows his softer side, as done by King Peter, when he gives in and decides a royal wedding could be fun!

Hope you enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Just a few thoughts…

Whilst we all have a good idea of the look of Las Vegas, in particular the iconic images of “the strip” and many of its recognisable hotels; here a few pictures from some of said hotels interiors. This module our scenes took place entirely indoors and therefore I did a little research into the appearance of hotel rooms/lobbies, as we know our characters are wealthy and therefore most likely living in the lap of luxury.

Also, to quote myself in an earlier comment on set design ideas:
“After looking online for more set inspiration I was wondering, would it work at all if the bar in which Leonce and Lena meet became more of a classic-american-diner-esque establishment? As it is the place where the pair meet and first find a โ€œkindred spiritโ€, so to speak, it could be the one place out of all the chaos of Las Vegas, that suits them more and where they appear more at home? It would also be very appropriate for the inclusion of the jukebox”
So I have also included a few pictures realting to that.
